Step up to September
"What do you want to be when you grow up?" is a question posed to millions of students at this time each year as they meet and greet their teachers and classmates.
Granted, "I want to be a REALTOR®!" isn't a popular answer in grade school. It is, however, a tremendous reminder that we all need to go "back to school" at times ourselves.
Real estate is an industry where our only true limitations are those we place on ourselves. So as children step back into their roles as students, let's take the time to do the same.
Set a goal this September to learn a new skill... master a new technique... and discover a new knowledge base that will help you earn credentials as the best you can possibly be for yourself, your family and your clients. |

It's September. Do You Know
Where Your Schools Are?

An estimated 22 million students will return to school this month,
along with millions of dedicated parents, teachers and administrators.
Becoming a business partner with a local school or two is a SMART way to increase your sphere of influence, give back to your community and help our nation's young
people thrive.
Most PTAs or PTSAs are more than willing to let local community leaders lend a helping hand, especially as they re-open their doors and gear up for a new
and exciting year. Here are some tips for getting started:
- Make a list of area schools, and get the names and
contact information for the principals, assistant principals
and PTA/PTSA presidents.
- Contact each person, both by letter and by personal phone call, expressing your interest in becoming a school business partner.
- Get involved! In most cases, a little bit of paperwork is all it takes for you to begin your new alliance with a school.
- Find out where your help is needed most. Need ideas? Sponsor a back-to-school breakfast or lunch for the teachers and staff. Donate much-needed paper or office supplies. Help rally other local businesses to participate in a "Businesses for Backpacks" project to buy school supplies for underprivileged children. Offer to sponsor rewards programs for academic achievement or accelerated reading programs. Help purchase books or equipment for a school media center.
- Join forces. Have your whole office sponsor a school, or enlist the help of your title or mortgage representative. What a terrific opportunity to join together and really make an impact!
- Participate in the school's Great American Teach-In or Junior Achievement program. Both are nationwide programs that allow local business men and women to be "teacher of the day." Perhaps you can inspire a few students to say,
"I want to be a REALTOR®!"
Partnering with area schools is a terrific way to network and connect with members of your community in a very important way. Helping parents promote and protect their children can be the beginning of incredible friendships. You may just find yourself working with other local business owners whose like-mindedness is the catalyst for a tremendous business-to-business relationship.
Today's competitive market challenges real estate professionals to venture outside of the box to find new and unique ways to differentiate themselves from the area agent pool. Taking your business "back to school" might be the perfect way to create a niche for yourself and provide a much-needed resource for our nation's young people and the amazing teachers and staff that inspire them at the same time!
So get started, and don't be late for school!

September Master Marketing Tips!
Slip into September with lots of great ways to capture the attention (and the business) of your local market!
Did you know that September is National Baby Safety Month? Why not team up with a local pediatrician's office or AAA office and host a Baby Safety Rally! You can offer free immunization information, car seat safety checks, fingerprinting services and more. Local grocery stores are often amenable to providing a convenient location, and you can even enlist a local photographer to snap pictures!
Also contact your local police department or sheriff's office. Many have a public relations or resource officer who could be on hand for information. Fire departments and local insurance companies also have pamphlets and safety information you can use!
Be sure to announce your event with flyers at local stores and businesses, preschools and child-care centers, hospitals and schools! And remember to send a press release to your area newspapers, radio stations and television stations! This is the type of human interest piece that they love to cover!
Don't forget to send out your September newsletters! Call 12 of your best clients on September 21, and let them know that on World Gratitude Day you are certainly grateful for their business and friendship! Get out there and shake hands in your neighborhood of choice on the 24th for Good Neighbor Day, or pass out apples at a local library on the 26th for Johnny Appleseed's birthday!

"We ordered 300 jumbo 'Just Sold' cards to distribute announcing a property sold in October 2005. In June of this year, we received a phone call from that farming area. A home seller had kept the card for 8 months, and when he was ready to market his home, he called us!
When we asked why he chose us (considering there were plenty of other agents targeting the same area), he mentioned how durable the laminated postcard was. He had shuffled the card in a few drawers around the house over time, but it remained in perfect condition.
